I am Muhammad Furqan Khattak from Pakistan. I was selected for the U.S. State Department funded cultural exchange scholarship to study a semester at Upper Iowa University this 2012 spring semester. About 200 students from different parts of Pakistan were selected for the prestigious exchange program, "Global UGRAD Pakistan."

Though spring has only officially started this week, because of the weather we’ve been having, it seems like it started a couple weeks ago. For a lot of students, the warmer conditions have prompted an increased desire to be outdoors and take full advantage of them. While both outdoor and indoor activities during this time of year are great, it is important that they’re approached safely. |

Upper Iowa University has recently added a new major and minor to its curriculum; creative writing. Starting Fall Semester 2012, students will be able to improve their writing skills and learn things that will help them later in their careers. |

The International Cultural Night event will be held at Upper Iowa University’s Fayette campus on April 5th, 2012 in the Student Center, Ballroom B. This event is meant to create cultural awareness, allow for cultural learning, and provide the opportunity to interact with people from all around the world to first handedly see their culture. |

The two words, “Dress Code” invoke restrictions of freedom of expression. When this is restricted controversy is created. Some students and parents may protest against the decisions made by high schools that give unwritten or written rules of what or what not to wear to school, with the belief that the dress code is taking away their children’s individuality. On the other hand, others may think that having a dress code is the solution to decrease violence and competition and will create a safer educational environment for their kids. |
